Isolation Stories

The TV show that I watched was Isolations story and the way it differs from traditional TV Show's is in a lot of ways. The main thing, being that there's only one character being filmed, with one location and one camera. A traditional TV show would have hundreds of characters, loads of cameras and locations. Whereas in this we had a main character called Mel, she most likely filmed all this by herself all the other characters that were in this were shown over a video call or over the phone. When it comes to types of cameras, the main actor most likely only used a single camera to record all this and changed the position of it for different angles or shots. With location, the whole first episode is filmed in a singular location, being her home. One big difference as well that this TV show has compared to a tradition TV show is the length of an episodes. The length of a traditional TV show episode would be anywhere from 30-60 minutes long, whereas this one is only 15 minutes.

The Guardian Article

The creative limitation that ITV faced were the cut off of physical contact, this restriction meant that the crew and cast had to change the way everything was filmed and shot. They could only shoot from home, they had a limited amount of crew on set (only people each household), limited across, which definitely effected the whole production process. All the skills needed like directing skills or make up and grooming were all tough via zoom calls and only given a couple hours of practice.

To adapt the series with the new legal requirements, the director casted everyone over the phone and made sure that there was an extra person in the house that was able to operate the camera and film them.

In pre production, all the actors got sent equipment and then they all took part in a zoom call where they got taught how to operate the equipment and how to set it up correctly so they knew what to do, when it came to the production part. As well as lessons on how to use the equipment, they also got taught how to do make up and other technical things like lighting and audio just so that they were ready and had some knowledge when it came to filming.

Difference between Staged and Letters in Lockdown

Style

The style in both of the shows is pretty simple, they have simple camera angles and shots and the story is just about peoples every day life in isolation, where we learn more about their personal life and personalities.

Visuals

Both the visuals of Stage and Letters in Lockdown are similar as they both use raw footage that's been cut up and edited together. They didn't add any colour grading or lighting to make the shots look better. Also, both shows are located at the actors homes due to the pandemic and not being able to leave your home to meet with others.

Editing

Both shows have similarities in how they are edited. They both cut between normal lives and video calls. The shots only cut when there is a change of scenery and are usually pretty long. The overall pace of both shows is pretty show, mimicking the feeling of being in isolation.

Shot types

In both shows, the shot types consists of mainly mid shots that are captured on their phones or computer webcams showing the perspective of each person doing their day to day things.
